Creative Expression
While I am not a formally-trained art therapist, I have a long-term interest in alternative, creative expression largely because traditional talk therapy doesn’t meet the needs of all clients, particularly young children.
Many years ago, I was ill-advised by my high school counselor to steer away from my interest in art classes. “If you want to get into a good college, you should take advanced placement classes instead,” they said. How misinformed that advice was. Just terrible! Understanding the value of the arts and alternative ways to express oneself, I have purposely created a healing space for young clients with various options to demonstrate how they are feeling: with clay, paint, markers, fabric, and more. In fact, I seek regular, clinical supervision from a board certified, registered art therapist in order to grow in this area. Finally! I am taking my art classes! Let’s learn together.
