School-Related Needs and Challenges

In addition to being an experienced, clinical school social worker of students K-12, I am a former, Certified Special Education Teacher of students with emotional disabilities, grades 7-12. I have a solid understanding of academic programming in schools, special education services, 504 accommodations and other possible support systems. I am also aware of the complex social dynamics among students that can make the school experience difficult.

I am happy to work with families to better understand the school system and the many, varied systems of support. For example, what are all those acronyms about? What is RTI? An IEP? What is a 504 plan? Who should I contact about my child’s needs? It is not always easy to understand.

Likewise, I have both an interest and past experience in supporting the post-secondary goals of young adults. Certified in Myers-Briggs and Strong Interest Inventory Assessments, I love to help people discover who they are and where they want to go next.
